Another League Match produced a victory as our previous league game against Hope was disastrous. We set about our task with an opportunity to put runs on the board and allow Whichloe to chase a sizable total. We started off very well with Ed top scoring with 42 and sizeable contributions from Phil S and Johnny Smith. This did see us to around 80 odd for the lose of two wickets with plenty of balls to come. Then followed a HOBs batting collapse from yester year. No-one ventured into double figures and we were eventually all out on the last delivery for a pitiful 112. it should have been much better and looked as though it was going to be.
We then took to the field, hopes still high, for needed to be a victory to allow us to have any chance of retaining the coveted trophy that we have held for 2 years. The usual suspects opened the bowling and held a tight line and length that restrict them in the first 8 over's. Johnny finishing with 1/12 and yours truly with 3/9. We had them needing to up the run rate or they were in trouble. As the wickets fell at one end an opener was still hanging around and was eventually run out by Dave H for a top score of 40. They were always chasing the game and unfortunately our middle overs did not help with Dave H returning figures of 1/27 and Stu 1/26 from their 3 overs but we suddenly found that we were in a game that could have been shut out early doors. Ed and Paul bowled the remaining six over and kept the run rate down and eventually they required 15 from the last over. First ball of that over saw a misfield, again one might add, from not so golden hands Barry. 11 runs from 5 balls needed with a lefty with a short leg side boundary on strike. One more single followed and luckily we got the danger man off strike and we closed the match out for a deserved victory by 9 runs. Man of the match was awarded to ME for such a ferocious and devastating opening spell. Thanks!!!
