Old Boys v Pearce
Tuesday 23rd June at The YMCA
By PM Ashford
Tonights game brought Pearce to the mecca of cricket, the YMCA Golden Hill cricket ground. A beautiful evening for cricket and Jo Smith was unlucky to lose the toss. Pearce won and elected to bat.
Some very tight bowling to start the innings had the Pearce batsman tied down. This pressure eventually brought success. Jon Smith the pick of the bowlers took the first wicket, one brings two, two brings three, Smith eventually ending with 3 wickets for 18 off 4. Well done Jon! Although Pearce fought back in the middle order, HOBs did well to keep the total down and this was supported with some disciplined fielding and of course the flex of the golden arm with Adams picking up 3 wickets for 11 off 4.
The skipper finally caved into pressure and opened with the new partnership of Ashford and Davies. Davies keen to lead the way, was dismissed for 5 runs, Ashford quickly followed (a bit harsh on yourself there mate, you made a decent 24!! - Ash) and so it was left to the rest of the order; namely A Barry. Andy continued to amaze, using his vast range of shots in wowing the admiring crowd (I fucking love you Andy!). Others chipped in with little effect, but every run counts so they say. Things were starting to look very tight and many doubted whether the mighty HOBs could actually rise to this one.
With overs running out, it was squeaky bum time. To cut a long story short, we needed four off the last, Anth smashed it and we won. Well done big man.
